Facts: Defendant (D) was found guilty of 2 charges of sexual penetration of a child under 16 and 5 charges of indecent act with/in presence of a child under s 16. D and the complainant (C) were both of Sri Lankan origin and of Catholic faith. D was a friend of C’s father. Expert evidence was given by a child psychiatrist (Dr. Flower), in an endeavour to explain why earlier interviews of C in 2000 did not contain many of the serious allegations later levelled at D.
