Goldman v Hargrave [1967] 1 AC 645

Facts: Tree on the defendant’s (D) land was struck by lightning and caught fire. The following morning D contacted a tree feller to cut down the tree. The wood was still smouldering and D failed to douse it with water to eliminate the fire risk. Over the next few days, the weather became hot, reigniting the fire which spread to a neighbour’s, the plaintiff’s (Pl), property.
